La Recolección es un tipo de habilidad en Stardew Valley. Se trata de recoger recursos silvestres, tanto para comida como para otros fines. Algunos son estacionales, como ciertos cultivos silvestres. Los ítems recolectados pueden ser usados en cocina, como regalos para aldeanos y en lotes del Centro Cívico.

Talar árboles también se considera recolección, aumentando dicha habilidad con cada tala. Talando un árbol se obtienen 12 puntos de experiencia (que se otorgan con el último hachazo, el que hace que el árbol caiga) y quitando tocones y troncos da 25 puntos por cada uno.

Los ítems recolectados pueden ser de calidad normal, plata, oro e iridio. Sin embargo, sólo los jugadores con la profesión Botánico pueden encontrar ítems de calidad iridio. Mientras mayor sea la calidad del ítem, mayor será el beneficio al venderlo, la energía y salud restaurados y la cantidad de puntos de amistad que se obtienen al regalárselo a un aldeano al cual le guste o le encante dicho ítem.

La mayoría de los ítems que se pueden recolectar son estacionales, salvo las frambuesas y moras, que tienen su propia «estación»:

• Frambuesa: Se encuentra en arbustos durante la Primavera, entre el 15 y el 18.
• Mora: Se encuentra en el suelo durante todo el Otoño, y en arbustos entre el 8 y el 11

De 2 a 5 ítems recolectables aparecen cada día en cada mapa (es decir, las áreas delimitadas por transiciones de pantallas). Hay un límite de 6 apariciones por área en un momendo dado, salvo el caso de la playa y la parte más al este, que se consideran áreas separadas y, además, en dicha parte pueden aparecer más de 6 ítems. Algunos ítems especiales como las cebolletas no cuentan para este límite y se resetean a diario. El resto de ítems recolectables se resetean cuando el jugador se va a dormir.

Tanto los cultivos que crecen a partir de semillas silvestres como las trufas dan 3 puntos de experiencia cuando se cosechan / recogen. Otros ítems alrededor de la ciudad dan 7 puntos cada uno.
